In a shameless plug of new content on the main WAB website we have just added a new section called Towards Zero Waste. At present it consists of a summary of the concept and links to some in-depth case studies which we produced in conjunction with Scottish businesses to help show how they have moved towards Zero Waste.
I think the results are interesting to read and show the kind of steps all businesses can take to reduce, reuse and recycle more of their waste. However, it’s also important to recognise that making the move towards Zero Waste is a major step for businesses, particularly those who currently send all their waste to landfill. It can be a daunting task to make fundamental changes to business processes but there is help out there. Our website offers information and links to other support organisations. No one has to go it alone and the fact is, any business owner or manager who still needs convincing of the merits of effective waste management need look no further than the landfill tax post I wrote a few weeks ago. Waste hits your bottom line. Zero Waste doesn’t.
Anyway, we want to celebrate the efforts of the businesses that have changed the way they operate to minimise their waste outputs. They have saved costs and helped the environment.
